I have never had an old truck where the dash lights worked, let alone a working dimmer hooked up correctly. As an added bonus, I simply love the light pipe that provides a glowing dot on the gear selector via a bundle of optical fibers. Click on the picture to see the video:
Running the wires to the back was something that I dreaded. I hate crawling around under the truck. It isn't as bad as it used to be. I used to actually get nauseous looking up at the bottom of a car. I still do a tiny bit. Luckily I have a decent creeper. I think it is a red creeper, maybe salmon, but the guys at Harbor Freight had a good time calling it pink. Anyway, here is the start of the journey for the wires that need to go to the tail:
I used some split plastic tubing to protect tie wires:
