I've added a front cross piece for the cabover bed, and both twelve foot boards are supported and bolted to the cross brace across the front of the bed:

I want to keep the front from bending down first of all, so I need to get some nice plywood on the perpendicular at the back. this is the first piece, a bit under four feet so that some of the wood can be secured at the back:

Here is a key design decision. I'm bolting two 2X4s to the metal rack:
