I'm pretty sure that the core issue with Isabelle right now is related to the vacuum advance. I was able to improve things by reducing the advance as much as I could by turning the screw through the tip of the vacuum advance canister with an allen wrench. This was good, but not quite good enough. For kicks, I flipped the center plate over in the distributor. Here you can see that the number side is down, and the surface of the metal on the plate in the center looks kind of like the bottom. The edges are sharper:
I pulled on the weights and it seemed like it stopped hard. There is some evidence that the advance can go forward too far when the RPMs get up to 4,000 or so. I mentioned that I was planning on getting a brand name HEI distributor. I really don't want to put too much time into tweaking this distributor. It is a no-name I got for forty bucks, and I want to make sure I'm working from a reference distributor if I'm going to put time into it, so i'm going to continue on with the GMPP one. I'll continue on with this article with the distributor comes. [The number 141681 - GM Performance Parts Licensed HEI works fabulously. March, 2009]
